Beatrice Luigi Gomez made history when she was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2021, becoming the first openly bisexual woman to receive the title. Before that, she played varsity volleyball in college and was raised by a single mother. In September 2021, she took over from outgoing titleholder Rabiya Sundall Mateo as queen of the pageant. She also dated model and DJ Kate Jagdon prior to her big win. Beatrice then went on to compete at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant in Eilat, Israel and finished in the top five!
