About Barbara Roberts
Barbara Roberts (born December 21, 1936) is an American politician from Corvallis, Oregon. She served as Oregon’s thirty-fourth governor and was the first female to hold this position, serving from 1991 to 1995.
During her time in office, she implemented a program that involved members of her administration soliciting the opinions of ordinary Oregonians to better understand their needs and concerns.
Prior to her political career, Roberts graduated from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Following her governorship, she returned to Harvard University.
In addition to her political work, Roberts wrote a book titled “Death Without Denial Grief Without Apology: A Guide for Facing Death and Loss,” which focuses on coping with the loss of her husband who passed away from cancer.
She was married to Oregon Senator Frank Roberts for almost twenty years until his untimely death.
