Barbara Murray Holland was an American novelist born on April 5, 1933, in Washington, DC, United States. She is best known for her vice-celebrating works such as “Endangered Pleasures: In Defense of Naps, Bacon, Martinis, Profanity and Other Indulgences,” “The Joy of Drinking,” and “When All the World Was Young.” She also authored other creatively-titled works including “Secrets of the Cat” and “Creepy Mouse Coming to Get You.”

Prior to gaining fame as a writer, she achieved recognition by winning the National Scholastic poetry competition twice during her high school years in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Barbara then worked as a copywriter in Philadelphia.

A notable fact about her is that her mother, Marion Holland, was a children’s book author and illustrator. Barbara was married and divorced three times and had two sons and a daughter.
