About Barbara McClintock
Barbara McClintock was a renowned geneticist born on June 16, 1902 in Hartford, Connecticut. She is best known for her groundbreaking study of genetic elements and regulation, for which she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1983.
McClintock made history as the first woman to win the Nobel Prize unshared and was also elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 1944. Prior to her esteemed career, she attended Cornell University where she focused on botany.
