About Barbara Lee
Barbara Lee, born on July 16, 1946 in Texas, is a well-known politician. She made history as the first female U.S. Representative for California’s ninth congressional district when she began serving in 1998. A Democrat, she also served as the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Prior to her political career, Lee was involved with the Black Panther Party’s Community Learning Center during her college years. She gained notoriety by being the sole member of either house of Congress to vote against the authorization of use of force following the September 11, 2001 attacks – a stance that made her a hero among many in the anti-war movement.
In terms of personal life, Barbara has two sons named Tony and Craig Lee who are both employed within the insurance industry.
