Barbara Bates (August 6, 1925 – March 18, 1969) was an American actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Phoebe in the 1950 film All About Eve, which starred Bette Davis and George Sanders.
Bates was born in Denver, Colorado, and began her career studying ballet, working as a model, and winning a local beauty contest before catching her big break with publicist Cecil Coan. She appeared in a number of television shows including It’s a Great Life starring James Dunn.
She married Cecil Coan and tragically committed suicide two years after his death from cancer.
