About Ayako Wakao
Ayako Wakao is a Japanese movie actress born on November 8, 1933 in Tokyo, Japan. She has appeared in over 100 films throughout her career, with 20 of them being directed by Yasuzo Masumura. In recognition of her contributions to the film industry, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Mainichi Film Awards in 2006.
Wakao began her acting career as part of the fifth New Face group contracted to Daiei Studios in 1951. She gained prominence for her role in Yasujiro Ozu’s “Floating Weeds” released in 1959.
Outside of her professional life, Ayako was married to Kisho Kurokawa from 1983 until his passing in 2007.
