About Aurelia de Souza
Aurelia de Souza, born on June 13, 1866, in Chile, was a renowned Portuguese painter known for her “Self-Portrait” from 1900. She excelled in painting landscapes, portraits, and everyday scenes.
Before gaining fame as an artist, she attended the Fine Arts Academy of Porto in Portugal and studied under the tutelage of the esteemed Joao Marques de Oliveira.
De Souza’s artistic style was influenced by realism, naturalism, impressionism, and post-impressionism.
She was born in Chile to Portuguese parents but moved back to Portugal with her family at the age of two.
