About Audrey Mestre
Audrey Mestre (August 11, 1974) was a French freediver known for breaking the female world record by diving to a depth of 130 meters underwater on a single breath. Tragically, she passed away during a practice dive of 171 meters in 2002. She was posthumously inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame later that year.
Before her fame as a diver, Mestre grew up in France in a family passionate about diving and snorkeling. As a teenager, she moved to Mexico City and later studied marine biology at a university in La Paz.
In 2006, Carlos Serra published “The Last Attempt,” which discusses her fatal dive and places responsibility for her depth primarily on her husband’s negligence during the dive. Mestre was married to fellow famed freediver Francisco Ferreras from 1999 until her passing.
