About Audre Lorde
Audre Lorde was a Caribbean-American poet, author, and political activist known for her works such as “Coal,” “The Black Unicorn,” and “The Cancer Journals.” She sought to expose the currents of racism in feminist ideology. Lorde attended Columbia University and published her debut poetry collection, “The First Cities,” in 1968. She published more than 15 books throughout her career; she also served as New York State Poet Laureate from 1991 to 1992. Lorde identified as a lesbian but had two children with attorney Edwin Rollins before they divorced. She died of breast cancer in 1992.
