Ashwini Ponnappa, born on September 18, 1989 in Bengaluru, India, is an Indian badminton player known for her remarkable achievements in the sport.
In 2010, she made history by winning India’s first gold medal in women’s doubles at the Commonwealth Games. Her partnership with Jwala Gutta has garnered widespread recognition and success, with the duo reaching the Top 10 rankings in 2015.
Ponnappa began playing badminton in the early 2000s and achieved multiple national titles at the junior level before making her mark internationally. Alongside Gutta, she represented India at the 2012 London Olympics.
She holds a degree from St. Mary’s College and comes from a sports-oriented family; her father was a prominent hockey player while her younger brother is named Appanna.
