About Ashley Nell Tipton
Ashley Nell Tipton, born on June 25, 1991 in San Diego, California, is a prominent fashion designer known for being the winner of season 14 of Lifetime’s Project Runway. Notably, she was the first designer to win with a plus-size collection.
Tipton’s passion for fashion started at a young age as she would create clothes for her Barbies and learned to sew on her grandmother’s sewing machine at seven years old. She graduated from Fashion Careers College with a degree in fashion design in 2012. Her senior year collection gained attention and was showcased at New York’s Full Figure Fashion Week that same year.
In 2015, Tipton joined Project Runway and emerged victorious that season. Subsequently, her winning collection debuted at New York Fashion Week later that year.
Her designs garnered further acclaim when actress Gabourey Sidibe donned pieces from Ashley Nell Tipton’s collection at the Teen Choice Awards in 2015.
Tipton hails from a family of four children and tragically lost her grandmother just before applying to Project Runway. In honor of her late grandmother’s life, she decided to pursue this opportunity which ultimately launched her career as an esteemed fashion designer.
