About Annie Proulx
Annie Proulx, born on August 22, 1935 in Connecticut, is an American author and journalist. She is best known for her Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning novel The Shipping News (1993). Proulx also gained acclaim for her short story Brokeback Mountain, which was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film.
Proulx began her career as a journalist and published her first story in a 1963 issue of If magazine. She holds the honor of being a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Vermont. Notably, she amassed a large library at her Wyoming ranch spanning over 640 acres.
Born Edna Annie Proulx to parents of English and French-Canadian descent, she has been married three times and has children named Jonathan, Gillis, Morgan, and Sylvia.
