About Annabel Sutherland
Annabel Sutherland (born October 12, 2001) is an Australian cricketer known for her skills as an all-rounder. In 2023, she signed with the Indian Women’s Premier League team, the Gujarat Giants. She began her international career in 2020 when she was selected for Australia’s squad in the 2020 Australia Women’s Tri-Nation Series.
Prior to her rise in professional cricket, Sutherland attended Methodist Ladies’ College and has also excelled as a player of Australian Rules soccer. Notably, she made her senior debut with the Melbourne Renegades at just 15 years old and represented both the Australian national U15 and U19 cricket teams during her youth career. At the time of her senior debut, she became the youngest player ever to feature in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Throughout her career, Sutherland has played for various squads including Melbourne Renegades, Victorian Spirit, Melbourne Stars and Welsh Fire. In June of 2023, she scored a maiden Test century that set records as one of the fastest test centuries by an Australian woman – ranked fourth overall.
Beyond sports achievements, Annabel comes from a family deeply rooted in cricket: Her father James Sutherland is a former head of Cricket Australia while brother Will Sutherland is also a professional cricketer.
