About Ann Kiessling
Ann Kiessling, born on March 29, 1942 in Oregon, is a renowned biologist known for her groundbreaking work in stem cell research. Her significant contributions include the discovery of reverse transcriptase activity in normal human cells and the development of America’s first human egg donor program for stem cell research.
Prior to her illustrious career, Kiessling obtained bachelor’s degrees in nursing and chemistry before pursuing a Ph.D. from Oregon State University in Biochemistry and Biophysics, which she earned in 1971.
In addition to her pioneering research, Kiessling authored the very first textbook on stem cells entitled “Human Embryonic Stem Cells: An Introduction to the Science and Therapeutic Potential.” She has been recognized as a leader in advancing our understanding of reproductive biology and continues to inspire new generations of scientists through her work.
Kiessling is also a mother to four children who have undoubtedly benefited from their mother’s invaluable contributions to science.
