About Ann Cleeves
Ann Cleeves is an award-winning novelist known for her work in the mystery and crime genre. She was born on October 24, 1954, in England. Cleeves is best known for creating the characters Vera Stanhope, Jimmy Perez and Matthew Venn series.
In 2006, she received the Duncan Lawrie Dagger for her novel “Raven Black,” which marked the beginning of her popular Jimmy Perez series. Additionally, in 2014, she was honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Sunderland.
Prior to her literary success, Cleeves studied English at the University of Sussex but ultimately dropped out. She held various jobs including working as a cook at Fair Isle bird observatory, serving as an auxiliary coastguard, probation officer, library outreach worker and child care officer.
In recognition of her contributions to crime writing and literature overall, she was shortlisted for the Dagger in the Library UK Crime Writers’ Association award in 2015. Furthermore,t In 2022 New Year Honours List.,She was appointed Officer of Order British Empire (OBE) .
Cleeves married Tim Cleeves in 1977 but sadly lost him in 2017; together they had two daughters.
