About Angela Perez Baraquio
Angela Perez Baraquio, born on June 1, 1975 in Hawaii, is best known for her groundbreaking achievement as the first Asian-American winner of the Miss America pageant in 2001. Prior to this, she was crowned Miss Hawaii a year earlier.
Baraquio earned a degree in elementary education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and subsequently taught physical education at the Holy Family Catholic Academy in Honolulu. She comes from a large Filipino-American family of Roman Catholic faith and has been an outspoken advocate for pro-life views.
In addition to her accomplishments in pageantry and education, Baraquio is also recognized for her family life. Alongside her husband Tinifuloa Grey, a Polynesian musician, she raised four children and founded Isle Entertainment – a performing arts group.
