About Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett, born on August 16, 1958 in New York City, New York, is an acclaimed movie actress. She received an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It. Some of her other notable films include Waiting to Exhale, Notorious, The Jacksons: An American Dream, Malcolm X and Black Panther. She also appears as Desiree Dupree in FX’s American Horror Story.
Prior to her rise to fame, Bassett earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama in 1983. Following graduation, she worked as a receptionist at a beauty salon before embarking on her acting career with roles in various New York stage productions.
In addition to her film work, Bassett made brief appearances in F/X and Kindergarten Cop before landing one of her first significant film roles as Reva Devereaux in the 1991 drama Boyz n the Hood.
Outside of her career achievements, Angela married Courtney B. Vance in 1997 and welcomed twins Bronwyn and Slater into their family in 2006.
