Angel Maxine, born on September 3, 1990, in Ghana, is a prominent figure known for her work as an LGBTQ+ rights activist and singer. Often hailed as Ghana’s first openly transgender musician, she has garnered a significant following on social media platforms such as Twitter (2,000 followers), Facebook (5,000 followers), and Instagram (10,000 followers).
Prior to gaining recognition for her activism and music career, Angel Maxine served as the choir mistress at her father’s church. During her time at Koforidua University, she performed under the stage name Sexy Lagazee and also ventured into songwriting while providing backup vocals for various musicians.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Angel Maxine trained as a chef and operated a successful culinary service specializing in catering for events such as parties, weddings, and funerals.
An influential moment in Angel Maxine’s career came in January 2021 when she collaborated with Wanlove and Sister Deborah to release the single “Wo Fie” after police shut down the offices of LGBT+ Rights Ghana. The song’s title is derived from the Akan phrase Ebi wÉ” wo fie which translates to “the same thing is in your home.”
