Andreas Athanasiou is a Canadian hockey player born on August 6, 1994, in London, Canada. He was selected as the 110th pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings. Athanasiou first gained recognition as a member of the gold medal-winning Ontario team at the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
Before his professional career, he played for the Toronto Titans in the Greater Toronto Hockey League starting in 2009. Recognized for his talent and skill, Athanasiou was named to the All-Star Team at the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge Tournament.
Athanasiou’s father, Stanley, is Greek while his mother, Nadira, is Indo-Guyanese.
