About Andrea Mead-Lawrence
Andrea Mead-Lawrence was born on April 19, 1932, in Vermont. She gained recognition as a champion ski racer and became the first American to win two gold medals in Alpine skiing after securing victories in Oslo in 1952.
At the young age of 15, Mead-Lawrence competed in her first Olympics which took place in Switzerland. Known for her daring turns at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, she quickly made a name for herself in the skiing world.
In 1952, she graced the cover of Time Magazine and went on to secure gold at the Winter Olympics held that year in Oslo. She married David Lawrence, a former slalom ski champion.
