Anais Mitchell, born on March 26, 1981 in Vermont, is a folk singer known for her album Young Man in America released in 2012 and her collaboration with Gregory Douglass on the song “Sadly” from his album Battler. She began writing songs at the age of seventeen and gained recognition for featuring artists such as Justin Vernon, Ben Knox Miller and Ani DiFranco on her 2010 album Hadestown. Mitchell’s father, a novelist, named her after author Anais Nin. Although she briefly attended Middlebury College, music became the primary focus of her career.
