About Amy Beach
Amy Beach, born on September 5, 1867 in Henniker, New Hampshire, was a composer known for her numerous chamber, piano, choral, and art and folk music compositions. She gained recognition for her Three Browning Songs, Op. 44.
Beach showed musical talent from a young age and could sing nearly four dozen songs by the age of one. As a toddler she could improvise harmonies to her mother’s melodies and began composing music by age five.
In the 1880s she became a frequent piano soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Shortly after marrying physician Henry Harris Aubrey Beach, she composed the Mass in E-flat major which launched her to fame.
