About Amina Mohamed
Amina Mohamed is a Kenyan lawyer and politician born on October 5, 1961. She has held several notable positions including Deputy Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Kenya. In 2005, she became the first female chair of the World Trade Organization’s General Council.
Before her political career, Amina Mohamed attended the University of Kiev on scholarship and obtained degrees from the Kenya School of Law and Oxford University. She began her professional life as a legal officer in 1985.
She is fluent in English, Russian, Somali, and Swahili. Born during British colonial rule in Kenya, she experienced her country’s independence at an early age.
Amina Mohamed is married with two biological children and four adopted children.
