About Ameya Marie Okamoto
Ameya Marie Okamoto (born March 29, 2000) is an American artist and social justice advocate known for her paintings, particularly her memorial portraits. She is the founder of IRRESISTIBLE, an organization that connects grassroots organizations with artists seeking to be directly involved in social justice work.
Okamoto developed a passion for art at a young age and took numerous art classes throughout her childhood. In 2016, she began creating memorial portraits and gained attention for her portrayals of Christopher Kalonji and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, which garnered widespread recognition on the Internet.
She attended Tufts University where she majored in art. Okamoto has collaborated with various progressive organizations but is most notably recognized for her portraits centered around the Black Lives Matter movement. In 2022, she organized a memorial service for the victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Born in New York City and raised in Portland, Oregon, Okamoto has Japanese and Chinese heritage. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she holds a certification as a nail technician and enjoys nail art.
