Amber Riley is an American actress and singer, born on February 15, 1986 in Los Angeles, California. She is best known for her role as Mercedes Jones on the popular television series Glee, which earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance.
Prior to her success on Glee, Riley auditioned for the reality competition show American Idol at the age of 17 but was not successful. During her time on Glee, she performed several notable songs including “Respect,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and “I Look to You.”
In addition to her acting career, Riley also won season 17 of Dancing with the Stars and season 8 of The Masked Singer. She released her debut self-titled EP titled Riley in October 2020.
Riley’s parents are Tiny and Elwin Riley, and she grew up with two older sisters. In 2020, she became engaged to Desean Black; however the two later separated.
