About Amanda Shires
Amanda Shires, born on March 5, 1982 in Lubbock, Texas, is an American singer and songwriter known for her work as a country musician. She is also recognized for her skill as a violinist and has been a member of notable bands such as the Texas Playboys, Thrift Store Cowboys, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. Additionally, she has formed a duo with Rod Picott.
Shires’ musical journey began at the age of ten when she acquired her first violin from a pawn shop in Mineral Wells, Texas. By 15, she had joined the Texas Playboys – renowned as the former backing band for Western swing icon Bob Wills.
An interesting highlight of Shires’ career is her song “When you Need a Train It Never Comes” from her album Carrying Lightning, which was ranked fifth best song of 2011 by American Songwriter.
Further adding to her personal life accomplishments are her relationship with fellow musician Jason Isbell; they started dating in 2011 and were married in February of 2013. The couple welcomed their first child together named Mercy Rose in September of 2015.
