Amalia Rodrigues, born on July 23, 1920 in Lisbon, Portugal, was a renowned Portuguese folk singer and actress. She earned the nickname “Queen of Fado” due to her significant contributions to the fado genre and enjoyed a successful five-decade career as a recording artist.
Rodrigues’ humble beginnings saw her grow up in poverty in Portugal, where she began singing in the streets during her teenage years. Some of her notable singles include “La, la, la,” “Novo Fado da Severa,” and “Fado do Ciume.”
In 1942, Rodrigues married Francisco Da Cruz before divorcing in 1944. She later remarried Cesar Seabra in 1961.
