About Amalia Aguilar
Amalia Aguilar was a Cuban and Mexican film actress born on July 3, 1924, in Matanzas, Cuba. She was known for her significant contribution to the Rumberas film movement as an iconic dancer and actress.
Prior to gaining fame, Amalia’s captivating dance performances at Mexico City’s Teatro Lirico garnered attention from filmmakers. This led to her big-screen debut in the 1945 film “Pervertida.”
In recognition of her distinguished career, she received the Mexican Silver Ariel award in 2006. Outside of her acting career, she and her sister Cecilia formed a traveling Cuban dance show under the billing “The Aguilar Sisters.”
