Amaia Montero, born on August 26, 1976, in Spain, is a Spanish singer-songwriter best known as the vocalist of the pop band La Oreja de Van Gogh. The band released several successful albums including Dile al sol, El viaje de Copperpot, Lo que te conte mientras te hacias la dormida and Guapa. Montero met her bandmates at the University of the Basque Country while studying chemistry. In 2007 she embarked on a solo career after leaving the group.
Her parents were Jose Montero and Pilar Saldias and she had one older sister.
