About Alysha Newman
Alysha Newman, born on June 29, 1994 in London, Canada, is a Canadian pole vaulter. She achieved national recognition by becoming the Canadian national women’s champion and represented her country in the Olympics for the first time in 2016. Prior to her athletic career, she set school pole vaulting records at the University of Miami.
Before gaining fame as a pole vaulter, Alysha was a gymnast until she had to quit due to a back injury at age 13. Notably, she became the first Canadian high school girl to achieve a vault over 4 metres.
In an impressive display of skill and determination, Alysha went on to beat her own Canadian women’s record at the 2017 Hurricane Alumni Invitational with a remarkable vault of 4.71 metres.
Beyond her sporting achievements, Alysha comes from a close-knit family and has siblings named Kris, Brianna and Dylan.
