Almira Skripchenko, born on February 17, 1976 in France, is a French chess Grandmaster known for her achievements in the world of female chess playing. She gained prominence by becoming an “Under-16” chess champion after Moldova became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991. Skripchenko won the European Women’s chess Championship in 2001 and was honored as the “best sportsperson in 2001 in Moldova,” receiving the Order of National Merit in her native country.
Skripchenko hails from a family with deep ties to chess; both of her parents were professional chess coaches. Her success continues to inspire aspiring chess players around the world.
