Ally Carter, born on January 1, 1974 in Oklahoma, is an American author best known for her fiction for adults and young adults. She gained popularity as the creator of the Gallagher Girls series and has also authored the Heist Society series and a novella titled Double-Crossed.
Prior to her successful writing career, Carter earned degrees from Oklahoma State University and Cornell University. Her first published works were Cheating at Solitaire and its 2006 sequel, Learning to Play Gin.
A significant moment in Carter’s career was when her sequel to I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You called Cross My Heart And Hope To Die spent ten weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list after its debut in 2007.
Carter was born Sarah Leigh Fogleman but chose the pen name Ally Carter so that her books would be placed near those of adult-fiction writer Jenny Crusie. She grew up in Oklahoma with an older sister.
