About Alison Bartlett
Alison Bartlett (born July 14, 1971) is a television actress known for her role as Gina Jefferson on Sesame Street from 1986 until 2015. She has reprised the role in various related specials and straight-to-video productions. Bartlett also portrayed Donna in the 1985 Broadway show Hurly Burly, and appeared in several episodes of the FX show Rescue Me as Deb Stackhouse in 2006.
Prior to her career breakthrough, Bartlett began acting at a young age and landed the role of Joanne in the 1984 theater production of Landscape of the Body when she was only twelve years old.
An interesting anecdote about Bartlett is that when she was first offered the role on Sesame Street, she initially turned it down due to concerns that her “tough” image would be jeopardized and feared potential rejection which might have led to resentment against herself for joining such a beloved show.
Bartlett met her husband, writer/director Harry O’Reilly, while starring in an ABC After-School Special entitled It’s Only Rock and Roll. Together they had three children. In credits following this event, she has been sometimes referred to as Alison Bartlett O’Reilly. She also made an appearance on an episode of FBI in 2023.
