About Alice Sebold
Alice Sebold (born September 6, 1963) is an American fiction and memoir writer best known for her novel The Lovely Bones, published in 2002. The book tells the story of the rape and murder of a teenage girl. Prior to that, in 1999, she wrote a memoir titled Lucky which detailed her own experience with rape.
Sebold was born in Madison, Wisconsin but raised in Pennsylvania. She studied creative writing at Syracuse University before eventually moving to Manhattan where she worked as a waitress while pursuing her writing career.
In addition to her work as an author, Sebold has also worked as the caretaker of an artists’ colony and lived in an electricity-less cabin in the woods. In 2001, she married Glen David Gold.
