About Alice Notley
Alice Notley (born November 8, 1945) is an Arizona-born poet. She is known for her works such as Margaret & Dusty: Poems, Mysteries of Small Houses, and Grave of Light. In 2001, she was awarded the International Griffin Poetry Prize for her collection “Disobedience.” Notley graduated from Barnard College before earning her M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and received a Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
Notley married fellow poet Ted Berrigan while living in Chicago and later raised their two children in New York City after Berrigan’s death.
