About Alice M. Brock
Alice M. Brock (born February 28, 1941) is an American entrepreneur known for her work as a restauranteur, chef, and author. She was born in New York and gained fame for living with her husband in a deconsecrated church in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
Prior to entering the culinary world, Brock pursued painting and design as hobbies which she continued throughout her life. She became famous for saying “Tomatoes and oregano make it Italian; wine and tarragon make it French. Sour cream makes it Russian; lemon and Cinnamon make it Greek. Soy sauce makes it Chinese; garlic makes it good.”
In April 1961, Brock married her husband Ray – an architect and woodworker but left him seven years later in April 1968.
