About Alexandra Popp
Alexandra Popp is a German soccer player and Olympic gold medalist, born on April 6, 1991, in Witten, Germany. She plays as a striker for VfL Wolfsburg and the German national team.
Popp attended Gesamtschule Berger Feld in Gelsenkirchen, one of four facilities certified as “elite schools of football” by the German Football Association. Despite being the only female pupil at the school, she was granted attendance via a special permit and studied and trained with junior players from FC Schalke 04. After completing her studies at the 12th grade with a Fachabitur diploma, she pursued an apprenticeship to become a zookeeper at Tierpark Essehof in Lehre.
She has twice been named German Footballer of the Year (in 2014 and 2016) and became captain of the German national team in 2019. Popp has amassed over 50 goals for Germany and nearly 100 for her club team. She also boasts a substantial social media following with approximately 10,000 followers on Twitter and 220,000 on Instagram.
