Alek Wek (born April 16, 1977) is a South Sudanese-born supermodel and fashion designer. Hailing from Wau, South Sudan, she rose to prominence in the fashion industry and has worked with renowned designers such as Shiatzy Chen, John Galliano, Chanel, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, and Jasper Conran.
Prior to her modeling career, Wek fled the turmoil in Sudan with her family when she was just 14 years old. She has since become known for her involvement in high-profile fashion campaigns and was named model of the year by MTV in 1997.
Wek grew up alongside eight siblings and continues to be an influential figure both on and off the runway.
