About Alejandra Robles
Alejandra Robles is a Mexican pop singer born on November 28, 1978, in Oaxaca, Mexico. Known for her songs “La Morena,” “The Witch,” and “Need Help,” she has made a name for herself as a dancer and singer with a musical style rooted in her Afro-Mexican background. Her sound is based on the traditional music of Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Veracruz.
Robles’ musical partner is renowned composer Armando Manzanero. She began her career by studying contemporary song and dance at the Oaxaca School of Fine Arts when she was 15. Later, in 2000, she furthered her studies at the 12th Paris Conservatory of Music before majoring in opera at the Universidad Veracruzana School of Music.
In 2012, Robles performed with the Colombian group Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. She hails from Puerto Escondido, a community on the Costa Chica of Oaxaca.
