About Alda Lara
Alda Lara (born June 9, 1930) is an Angolan poet known for her Portuguese-language poetry collections, including the widely acclaimed “Tempo da Chuva”. She has been honored with the Alda Lara literary prize in recognition of her significant contributions to literature.
Lara pursued higher education at Lisbon University and later at the University of Coimbra prior to gaining recognition as a prominent literary figure. Her poem “Preludio/Mae Negra” was famously set to music and recorded by Portuguese singer Paulo de Carvalho.
Following her death, her collected works were published by her husband, Orlando Albuquerque, further preserving Lara’s legacy as a distinguished poet in the Portuguese literary tradition.
