About Akela Jones
Akela Jones, born on November 11th, 1993 in St. Michael, Barbados, is a prominent runner and multi award-winning athlete known for her remarkable accomplishments in track and field.
Her accolades include securing the gold medal at the 2014 World Junior Championship in the long jump event, clinching the title of 2015 NCAA Heptathlon Champion, and earning a bronze medal in the high jump at the 2015 Pan American Games. Notably, she holds records as the Barbadian record-holder in women’s heptathlon, pentathlon, long jump, and high jump.
Before achieving fame, Jones made her mark by participating in CARIFTA Games at just 12 years old where she garnered her first gold medal in 2010. She also became the first Barbadian to win a Penn Relay high school event that same year. In addition to setting records during various trial events such as those for national youth and junior women’s long jumps at the CARIFTA trials.
