About Ailes Gilmour
Ailes Gilmour was a Japanese American dancer, born on January 27, 1912 in Japan. She is widely recognized for her contributions as one of the pioneers of the Modern Dance movement during the 1930s. After graduating from high school, Gilmour received a scholarship to the Neighborhood Playhouse where she studied dance.
One notable highlight of her career was when she and other members of her dance troupe performed at the opening night celebration of Radio City Music Hall in 1932. In 1948, Gilmour married Herbert J. Spinden.
