About Agathe Uwilingiyimana
Agathe Uwilingiyimana (born May 23, 1953) was a Rwandan politician who served as the country’s Prime Minister. Tragically, she was assassinated at the onset of the Rwandan Genocide. Uwilingiyimana and her husband made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their children.
Prior to entering politics, Uwilingiyimana taught chemistry at the National University of Rwanda. In 1993, she made history by becoming Rwanda’s first female Prime Minister.
She was born in Nyaruhengeri, a small village in Rwanda, to Hutu farmers.
