About Afeni Shakur
Afeni Shakur was born on January 10, 1947 in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was a Civil Rights Leader and is best known as the mother of rapper Tupac Shakur and founder of the philanthropic Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation. Before gaining fame as the mother of a famous rapper, she was an active Black Panther during the Civil Rights movement.
Shakur won a lawsuit to obtain the rights to 150 of her son’s unreleased recordings. She was married to Mutulu Shakur from 1975 to 1982 and had six children: Tupac, Mopreme, Chinua, Ayize, Sekiywa and Nzingha.
