Catherine Parr Feet

Catherine Parr was born on August 1, 1512 in London, England. She is best known as the last queen consort of the House of Tudor and the sixth wife of King Henry VIII. The couple married on July 12, 1543 and remained together until Henry’s death in January 1547.

Parr held the title of Queen Consort of England and Ireland and was noted for her support of the Protestant faith, which drew criticism from Catholics. Prior to becoming queen, she gained a reputation for her love of learning and fluency in French, Latin, and Italian.

She published three books during her lifetime advocating for the Protestant cause. Catherine Parr holds several historical distinctions: she was the most-married English queen with four husbands; as well as being regarded as England’s first woman to publish under her own name in English.

Tragically, Catherine passed away due to complications from childbirth in 1548. Her family included stepchildren Mary I, Elizabeth I, Edward VI (all children of Henry VIII), younger brother William, sister Anne Parr along with parents Sir Thomas Parr and Maud Green.
