About Alaska
Alaska, born on June 13, 1963 in Mexico City, Mexico, is a world music singer known for leading several music groups such as Alaska y los Pegamoides, Alaska y Dinarama and Fangoria. She played a pivotal role in the Spanish counterculture movement called La Movida Madrileña.
Prior to her fame as a singer, she relocated to Madrid in the early ’70s where she was influenced by artists like Lou Reed and David Bowie. In 2011, she began starring on her own reality show titled “Alaska y Mario.” Her real name is Maria Olvido Gara Jova and she married journalist Mario Vaquerizo in 1999.
