Callista Roy Feet

Callista Roy, born on October 14th, 1939 in California, is best known for her influential “Adaptation Model of Nursing.” A writer, university professor, and trained nurse, she was honored with the American Academy of Nursing’s “Living Legend” designation in 2007. Before gaining fame for her work in nursing, Roy earned a nursing degree from Mount St. Mary’s College and later obtained a doctorate in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She then served as a neuroscience fellow at the University of California, San Francisco.

Roy spent many years as a teacher at Boston College’s William F. Connell School of Nursing and went on to establish an organization first known as BBARNS (the Boston Based Adaptation Research in Nursing Society), which later became the Roy Adaptation Association. Prior to her professional career, Callista Roy joined a Roman Catholic organization called the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and adopted the name Sister Callista Roy.
