Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan actress known for her powerful performance in the 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She has also appeared in prominent roles such as Maz Kanata in Star Wars, Nakia in Marvel’s Black Panther, and starred in the 2019 horror film Us.
Prior to her acting career, she graduated from Hampshire College with a degree in film and theatre studies before furthering her education at the Yale School of Drama.
She was born to Dorothy and Peter Anyang Nyong’o in Mexico City, Mexico. Lupita has five siblings – one older and four younger than herself.
