Big Freedia, born Freddie Ross on January 28, 1978 in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a rapper known for her contributions to bounce music, a sub-genre of hip hop. Her work earned her a nomination for the 2011 GLAAD Media Award and led to the creation of her own show on Fuse called Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce. Prior to gaining fame, Freedia honed her musical skills by taking piano lessons and singing in choir as a child. She also worked as a backup dancer and singer for Katey Red shows. Freedia has released several albums including Queen Diva, Big Freedia Hitz Vol. 1, Scion A/V Presents Big Freedia, and Just Be Free. She was raised alongside her brother Adam and sister Crystal in New Orleans.
